I started my career in finance in 1994 and spent 3 years working in a variety of roles, before joining an International Recruitment Group in 1997 and first meeting Graeme Read. During my time there, I helped support the business on a rapid growth cycle putting in place the systems, controls and financial and legal infrastructure, which ultimately saw the business earning four consecutive entries in the Virgin Fast Track 100 awards.
During 2000 and 2003, I broadened my industry knowledge, experiencing senior finance roles in two large PLC’s, which led to my involvement in three significant acquisitions, before returning to what I enjoyed most and rejoining the International Recruitment Group and Graeme, in late 2003
Here, I took on the role of Group Finance Director and worked with Graeme as Board level for more than a decade. Where Graeme as Group Managing Director developed the operations, performance management and growth of the business through hiring and developing the right people, my role was focused on driving the business from a structural and commercial standpoint and preparing the individual businesses for sale
During our time, Graeme and I transacted, as acquirers or sellers, more than a dozen businesses across the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.
